Your mission as VP of Engineering

As VP of Engineering, you will be responsible for engineering recruitment (with support), the well-being and growth of colleagues and general performance of engineering teams to support the product direction set by the company leadership and Product Owners. Our objective for the next year is to grow the team size from 20 to 30 members and make sure all teams run effectively as self-managing Scrum teams. Your responsibility in this role and the main drivers of this mission will be:

  • Leading the growth of AutoUncle’s engineering department, currently organised in four scrum teams. 
  • Your ability to attract top talent and secure a smooth integration.
  • Cultivating a growth culture with emphasis on feedback, learning, experimentation, openness and velocity. 

To build great products, we know that interaction with end-users and validation based on data is crucial. So you will take on an important responsibility in making sure teams are well-structured and have agile development processes that drives forward based on market feedback (consumers and automotive dealerships). You will rely on your engineering experience to coach and guide the teams, but this role doesn't require writing software day-to-day. We expect you to take responsibility for making sure that engineering integrates well with the international AutoUncle organisation as a whole and that we have the people and processes to build products with excellence.

The role naturally has a strong people-focus and we anticipate that most of your time is spent in conversation with existing colleagues (we prioritise 1:1s very highly) or with potential new colleagues. Jonas (Co-founder & COO) will be your direct manager and you will be able to work closely together with the company’s leadership team. 

Because this is a remote position, you can work from anywhere within GMT 0, +1 and +2 time zones. Occasional face time will be agreed on in conversation with you.

Your profile

The qualities about you that we hope to see from your past experiences are:

  • You enjoy growing people and have leadership experience in one or more growth/change environments
  • You are an experienced technology team builder with prior experience in fostering high-performance cultures
  • You have a deep understanding and practical experience with agile software development based on Scrum
  • You are experienced working with both remote teams
  • You have business acumen
  • You may be a trained software developer yourself
